I’m flying… Golly!

Have I a story for you. Went to TGV 1 Utama. Wanted to watch Kung-fu Hustle or Meet the Fockers (no… I am not misspelling the title :P ). The seats for both films were fully booked right up till 11.30pm! Obviously, since today is a working day, no can do. What else to watch? I saw “The Aviator” on the screen… scheduled at 7.30pm. And it is not ‘filling fast’ on the board.

Odd? I read some excellent reviews on the show. And, though I detest his persona, Leonardo DiCarprio IS a very good actor. ML and I agreed. Bought the tickets, had dinner… and found that there were no one at the entrance to check on our tickets. So we just went in.

The commercials started… the place was not packed at all. But when it came into the KFC commercial (The 5 second commercial thingee), suddenly everything turned blurry… uh oh… not a good sign… sure enough… the first 5 minutes of the film was blurry and had a half a second out of synch with the sound. Then, the screen went blank!!!!

A fellow audience shouted in a very loud and strained voice “Fixed the bloody thing!!!!!!!” Sigh. To make it worse, the guy in front of us was eating burger (strong smell) and the guys at the back had garlic breath…. strong garlic breath… ewwwww.

Anyway. After 10 minutes of wait, the film came on again… corrected of course, of its former anomalies.

The AVIATOR. A very good film. Nice pacing. Never too focused on a single scene for too long. Hillarious and yet heart wrenching. The former is found abundantly throughout the film, as Leonardo’s character “Howard Hughes” oozes charm and wit as he ‘plays’ with his girls and tries to outsmart his competitor Yuan. I particularly loved the scene where he faces up to the Censorship Board for his head turning movie “The Outlaw” (also known in-movie as a western movie about Sex). Funny!

Hughes was an eccentric billionaire industrialist and Hollywood film mogul during the 40s. The show tries to capture the struggles and strengths of Hughes in fighting for aviation. Audience will be captured by his passion and madness. Yes, madness too… he had OCD… Obsessive Compulsive Disorder… which at times was hillarious.

Heart wrentching (to me) was the flight tests (which Hughes personally undertook) and his breakup with Katherine Hepburn. Oh… Cate Blanchett was marvelous as Katty! With the accent and mannerism. Both stars gave their best during their onscreen limelight.

Go watch it. It isnt epic or life-changing for sure… but it does make you think. A note of warning… the ending sucks. Really. No closure at all. Dont be surprised.
:)

“…never heard someone said Golly before!”

P.S. Watched Star Wars 3 trailer!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!
